In what could be the first step towards changing the way insurance claims are processed, Erie Insurance increased from test using a drone is to help equipment damage claim.
In April 2015, ERIE became one of the first insurance companies to request and receive authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration to use drones in trade. The company is not aware of another insurer who used a drone to help real demand.
The drone was used to inspect the roof of the home of a client after it had been repaired following damage from ice dam last winter. ERIE then deployed the drone for a second, the unbound claim that involved a tree falling on a house. ERIE used the drone to capture detailed aerial images of the damage to the roof and compare with original photos of adjustment after the tree was removed.
More about ERIE drones used in the claims process in this article from The Philadelphia Inquirer.
