4 Frequently Asked TaxACT TaxPayer Support Questions

How can I change my federal return?

First, make sure you print a copy of the original declaration that you filed (this will be your only recording of the statement as it was when you deposited once you make corrections to the amendment).

then you will need to change / add / delete information in your statement that needs modification.

Make a note of each item you are changing and the reason for each change you will need these notes to complete the Form 1040X. You can do this in two ways:

  1. take offline rating yourself or
  2. use the Bookmarks feature in TaxACT (see below). Please note the Bookmark information you enter will not be sent to the IRS. These notes are just personal references.

Please note 1040X can not be e-filed, the IRS requires that such statements modified by mail.

Here are step by step instructions on how to change your statement:

  1. Log in or start your TaxACT desktop program ..
  2. Click tab deposition and Change federal return .
  3. TaxACT will ask easy questions and request that you enter the appropriate information to complete the amended return. At the end of the process you will be prompted to print the Form 1040X and the mailing address for the form will be provided (note that you have already completed the two stages 1 and 2 that are listed on the amended return - Four steps if you followed all the instructions above)

the amended return, form 1040X, will be printed once completed and sent to the IRS. . Attach the accompanying documents that may be required.

normal processing time for 1040X forms is 8 to 12 weeks from the date of receipt of the IRS. You can track your amended federal return using IRS Where's my amended return? tool.

Please note there is a one-time fee to access your TaxACT Online account after e-filing season this year has ended.

How can I change my return to the state?

  1. Log in or start your TaxACT desktop program. , Print a copy of your federal returns and state of origin. This can be done by clicking the Print link and choosing Print Back and Instructions in the next window.
  2. Click State Q & A tab , then click the name of the applicable state.
  3. Click Amended Return .
  4. TaxACT will ask you easy questions and requests that you enter or revise the appropriate information.

Please note there is a one-time fee to access your TaxACT Online account after e-filing season this year has ended.

Where's my refund

You can check the status of your federal refund in 3 easy ways:.?

  2. Tax Return Status, a free mobile application for TaxACT (download here)
  3. efstatus.taxact.com

Note that the IRS Where is my refund system updates every 24 hours (usually overnight), so there is no need to check the site more than once a day.

Once the IRS accepts your return, they do not provide TaxACT more information about when refunds are mailed or deposited directly.
