When the House Whole Falls Apart -
An overflowing washing machine is one way everything falls apart.

Back in the mid-0s, there was an incredibly catchy song by Eye View one-hit Wonder Dog Band. Remember "Everything Falls Apart?"

"Do not look now, things have gotten worse."

We probably all know what it sounds like-even if what we consider a life in ruins probably evolved over time.

From the beginning, the bar was pretty low. Ok, really low. Consider the popular blog "Reasons My Son Is Crying." It contains images of infants and toddlers in various emotional devastation of states with captions like: ". The goldfish [crackers] came to the wrong place in the pantry"

As we age our criteria fall outside are more complex. Like when we go into our first house and we understand the concept of everything falling apart in a tangible way.

Because when it happens, the whole house is falling apart, right? In an ideal world, the roof would blow the week you got your big promotion and corresponding increase. And the oven would kerflooey a comfortable stretch of time later. As just after sweet old Aunt Hildy slides you just because a check to the family reunion.

In my house, a fall-out period lasted about a year from start to finish. Here's what went wrong:

  • The wreck of the water heater: flooded carpet Aspirations, in case you're wondering, much like sucking yogurt through your teeth while humming a grade of C.
  • The microwave dysfunction: This mishap may (or may not) have been caused by some capricious non withdrawn foil seal. COUGH. Nobody can prove anything.
  • The Clothes Washer Catastrophe: Well, of course it happened just after the children returned the sleepover camp. In the woods. In the rain.
  • And the Double-Oven disaster? This was the day of the birthday party of my daughter, a casual evening affair for 25 girls. Let's just say we will never activate the self-cleaning oven function when we entertain ... or never.
  • Finally, the Tree-asco: A summer storm monster beat an acacia 150 feet on the backyard workshop of my husband. When it could have caused more damage, cleaning was significant. (And later claims experience grateful that I am a customer with great Erie Insurance agent.)

Perhaps the super-organized us have the unit replacement fund . Or participate in home projects that can help squeeze a little more life to things.

However, chances are that there will be a time when a part of your holiday bonus or a piece of your vacation fund will be redirected reluctantly to the replacement device. But look on the bright side, as I did when we had to buy a new refrigerator before hosting the two sides of the family for Thanksgiving. You can finally get the high-water dispenser and ice you always dreamed of
