What is the computer flight frequency? The 8th annual BSI Computer Theft Survey was eye opening list on the theft of the actual computer threat has. Here are some of the most compelling findings of the survey:

  • There were more than 5.5 million computers stolen in the United States over the last three years. Global statistics are proportionally similar.
  • According to the FBI, only 3% unprotected (those who do not use tracking software and recovery software) stolen computers are never recovered.
  • More than half (58.7%) of survey respondents have been the victim of computer theft in the last 12 months.
  • Laptops with more than two thirds (68%) of these devices reported stolen, followed by desktop computers (10%) and PDAs, iPods, iPhones, etc. (22%).
  • Eighty-seven percent of survey respondents who experienced computer theft report the thief was never caught.
  • Forty-six percent of respondents said the estimated value of proprietary data on their computing device stolen $ 25,000 or less; 46.5% estimated the value at between @ 25,000 and $ 1,000,000. ; 6.5% of the estimated value of $ 1 million or more and 1% estimated the value at more than $ 10 million.
