New England expects torrential rains of 'Andrea' -

Andrea tropical storm would inundate the east coast this afternoon to Saturday - some areas should provide rain and flooding pockets torrential flash. Follow a map Hourly Forecast WCVB.

There are flood watches for this afternoon until tomorrow in all the states of New England, with the exception that Vermont moment. These can be found at the National Weather Service watches, warnings and warning pages

The following are important points to remember when driving in flood conditions :.

  • Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars causing loss of control and may stall.
  • A foot of water float many vehicles
  • Two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles including sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and pick-ups.
  • not to try to cross a flooded road. The depth of water is not always obvious. The roadbed may be washed under water, and you could be stuck or trapped.
  • Do not drive around a barricade. Barricades are there for your protection. Turn around and go the other.
  • Do not try to take shortcuts. They may be blocked. Stick to designated escape routes.
  • Be especially careful driving at night when it is harder to recognize flood dangers.
