Looking Instagram and Twitter messages that came from mobile devices and used the popular hashtag #whiledriving, we found that the top five hashtags used in tandem with #whiledriving included clouds, sunset, the sky, nature and the sun. This strongly suggests that people are snapping pictures of beautiful scenery and view the social media when using their vehicles . ERIE hashtag analysis also found that men were more likely to be double distracted than women, with 55 percent of #whiledriving messages from men, and 45 percent of women.

"Drivers need to keep their hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road, and their attention to driving," said Doug Smith, Erie Insurance senior vice president of personal lines. The behaviors show parallel with another study ERIE police data found daydreaming of being distracted from the most associated with fatal car accident driving. in reaching its conclusions, ERIE examined 0 days of social media monitoring data analysis firm Keyhole. The data collected were iPhones, iPads and Androids who had turned their location services.
