The new legislation will allow health care young adults to stay on their parents' health insurance plans until age 26. But the law will not be effective until September 23, 2010, leaving graduates of colleges this summer with gaps in coverage insurance.
In response to these failures without insurance coverage for young adults, WellPoint has decided to take measures to prevent the spread.
WellPoint has worked with the US Department of Health and Social Services to come with a solution to provide health insurance coverage for these young adults. From 1 June 2010, WellPoint and its health insurance plans keep young adults on the plans of parents until September when the new legislation is active. The extension of coverage will be for group plans and individual health insurance.
"Protecting access to health benefits for our members is our first priority. We are happy to lead the way in promoting the spirit of the reform of health care; increase access to affordable coverage, quality, "said Chief WellPoint strategy and direction of External Affairs, Bradley Fluegel.
Currently young adults represent the largest group of uninsured Americans. Legislation on health care has taken many steps to solve the problems that young people have with obtaining coverage. At the moment, young adults increased from health insurance plans of their parents when they graduate school and they usually can not afford coverage if an employer does not provide.
WellPoint done a commendable job to provide coverage to a group that is vulnerable to go without health insurance coverage and we hope that other companies will join.
