As if you needed more reminders (or maybe you do) the Obama administration will begin reaching out to consumers in the preparation of health exchanges under the affordable care Act.
Nearly three months before the health insurance markets open on 1 October, the Obama administration will work with the private sector so that people know they can get health insurance coverage the health reform law. To more effectively reach the uninformed, the administration will partner with hospitals, churches and community groups starting this July.
Marilyn Tavenner, acting administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has taken the lead in efforts to educate beneficiaries about their options. It is all about time, said Tavenner. "If we get too much of a head start with the beneficiaries on what they can expect in 2014 ... but let's say it is not available to you for six or seven months, then people tend to lose interest. "
The Ministry of Health and Social Services is also making efforts to structure exchanges in a friendly manner, an awareness-raising campaign to get feedback and comments consumers.
The purpose of the Affordable Care Act is to reduce the number of people without health insurance by expanding Medicaid eligibility, the grant of tax credits in the health insurance premiums and also increasing access to affordable health coverage through health insurance exchanges. The projections of the Congressional Budget Office estimate that 32 million more people will have insurance benefits by the year 2019.
