Pangs of hunger: School Lunch Plan Michelle Obama leaves students wanting more -

Students across the United States have found something hate about school, more homework. hunger

The outcry from a group of students went public with a YouTube video featuring students and teachers Kansas sing "We Are Hungry." Other teachers and parents and school workers also expressed their dissatisfaction with new requirements for food set up by First Lady Michelle Obama for school meal plans. the standards are designed to reduce calorie intake and help children eat healthier overall.

the requirements were established for health supplement, children Act without hunger, which was made by President Obama in 2010. Guidelines for school meals include the following:

  • reduction in caloric intake by total established according to each age group: 650 calories for kindergarten through fifth grade students, 700 calories for sixth to eighth grade students and 850 calories for the ninth-twelfth grade students.
  • Limit the choices of milk fat and low fat milk.
  • Make fruits and vegetables available to students on a daily basis.
  • Reducing the amount of sodium, trans fat and saturated fat in the meals.

It seems strange that adults get upset about children offered access to healthy foods. Still, teachers say that students are asleep and fuzzy after lunch break because of hunger, school workers are not satisfied with the changes in portion sizes and parents say their children are starving after school now than they were before the implementation of the requirements.

Finding the right balance is always ideal, and it may simply be a case of finding how to achieve a moderate point. However, we can not help but think of a blog post we published last week about the alarming rise in the percentage of obesity in the United States.

Developments like these have even boosted the initiatives taken by some restaurants and government agencies to increase awareness of how obesity can promote the development of serious diseases such as type 2 diabetes. childhood seems the perfect time to start promoting healthy lifestyle choices and help children avoid potentially fatal medical complications in their adult years

We want to hear from you. Is it, for example, a meal consisting of a larger serving of vegetables and smaller main course really not enough to satisfy the appetite of a young student, or have we simply become too accustomed to excessive amounts of food?
